ABOUT THE WORLD OF UDGALLU

Age of Udgallu — a world after the fall of civilization

Four hundred years ago, the old world perished after nanites went out of control. Cities turned to ruins, animals changed, and people lost much of their knowledge of the past. New generations call this time the Age of Udgallu — an era of fog, fear, and survival.

Now the world relies on settlements, trade routes, hunting, agriculture, and the rare knowledge that survived the Catastrophe. What was once science is now considered magic by many, and the remnants of the old world are dangerous gifts that come at the cost of blood.

World history

From Symphony to the Age of Udgallu

The history of the world is divided into two periods: the time before the Catastrophe and the time after it.

Once, humanity reached an incredible level of development. Diseases disappeared thanks to technology, cities grew, and scientific discoveries changed the lives of millions of people. One of these achievements was the Symphony — a system of nanites created for healing and restoring the body.

But human intervention led to a catastrophe. The nanites went out of control and began to spread across the world. Animals mutated, people lost control over their own bodies, and the environment changed right before their eyes. The system's attempt to fix the situation ended in a global failure.

Civilization collapsed. Most of the knowledge was lost. Cities turned into ruins, and the survivors began to build a new world among the remnants of the old.

Thus began the Age of Udgallu — an era in which the memory of the past was preserved only in legends, artifacts, and rare individuals capable of touching the forgotten knowledge.

World Before the Catastrophe

Humanity has reached the pinnacle of development. High technology, medicine, and global networks have made life safer than ever before. It was during this time that Symphony emerged.

Catastrophe

The emergence of nanites from under control led to the destruction of the old world. Cities were destroyed, animals were altered, and people lost memory of most of their history.

Age of Udgallu

After four hundred years, the world is learning to live again. Settlements are growing among the ruins, knowledge is gradually returning, and the past is increasingly reminding of itself through artifacts, legends, and powers that many call magic.

World Memory

Most inhabitants of Udgallu do not know what the world was like before the Catastrophe. For them, the ruined cities are ancient ruins, and the strange mechanisms and technologies of the past have long become part of legends.

Each settlement holds its own stories about the origin of the world. Some believe Udgallu is a punishment for human pride, others think it is the result of a war between ancient gods, while some are convinced that the land itself once fell ill and changed all living things.

But the past has not disappeared.

It hides in the ruined cities, old tunnels, forgotten laboratories, and objects whose purpose has long been lost. Hunters find metal structures, glass of unusual clarity, strange symbols, and mechanisms that no one knows how to recreate.

The further people delve into the ruins, the more they understand: the history of the world is much more complex than the legends passed down by the campfires.

Some knowledge is returning. Others are still waiting for their moment. And the most dangerous secrets of the past may never have been meant to be found again.

Tribes and factions

Tribes and factions

Alliances and Forces of Udgallu

After the fall of the old world, people survived in small groups. Over time, settlements began to unite for trade, protection, and the exchange of knowledge. Some alliances proved to be strong and still exist today, while others fell apart under the pressure of time, hunger, or wars. Not all factions are states or armies. Sometimes they are trade unions, shared traditions, or groups of settlements that help each other survive in the dangerous world of Udgallu.

❖

Alliance of the Four Settlements

After mastering the technology of glass smelting, the settlements began to collaborate closely. Trade routes were established, and the exchange of food, tools, and resources was organized. The alliance became the foundation of relative peace among neighbors.

Economy and trade

Economy and trade

Trade, survival, and the price of the old world

The economy of Udgallu relies not on wealth, but on utility. Each settlement survives by doing what it does best: the Ravens extract hides, fat, and glass from the ruins, Green Grass cultivates crops and preserves agricultural knowledge, Wolves manage trade and storage, while the Stream controls waterways and mills.

After the creation of the Union of the Four Settlements, trade became safer and more stable. Permanent routes, caravans, and a unified currency emerged between the settlements. However, beyond the allied roads, trade remains a dangerous endeavor: beasts, ruins, bandits, and hostile settlements can turn any path into a final sortie.

Lagerens

Lagerens are the main currency of the settlements of the union. They are made by the Wolves, using the secrets of glass processing obtained from the Rock Blackfaces. The coins vary in color and value: green ones are used in everyday trade, transparent ones are considered more expensive, and the red Lagerens is a symbol of great wealth and personal merit.

For the Wolves, the red Lagerens holds special significance: a person who manages to earn it by the age of twenty-five gains the right to undergo training and participate in the future selection for power.

Faith After the Memory Loss

After the Catastrophe, humanity lost not only knowledge but also the memory of its own past. People no longer understood the origins of the ruins, technologies, and changes in the world. In place of forgotten knowledge, legends, beliefs, and new explanations of what happened emerged. Most of the beliefs of Udgallu do not have temples or sacred texts. They are passed down through the stories of the elders, the rituals of the settlements, and the tales that help people explain the world around them.

☽

Udgallu

The most widespread belief in Udgallu. According to legends, the people of the past tried to touch the divine power and disrupted the established order of the world. For this, Udgallu deprived humanity of memory and condemned it to trial.

For some, Udgallu is a just judge, while for others, he is a stern guardian of the world who prevented an even greater catastrophe.

✨

Diana, Child of Silim

A relatively new belief that emerged after the events related to Diana. Followers consider her the daughter or chosen one of Silim — the sister of Udgallu, bringing hope, knowledge, and new light.

In their view, if Udgallu brought humanity a trial, then Silim sent Diana to show people the way to rebirth and prosperity.

Magic and nanites

Magic and nanites

Technology mistaken for magic

What nanites are

Nanites are microscopic machines created by the people of the old world as part of the "Symphony" project. They were originally intended for healing diseases, restoring tissues, and assisting humans.

After the Catastrophe, the system went out of control and spread across the world. Nanites infiltrated humans, animals, plants, and even the environment. Over time, knowledge of their existence was lost, and their actions came to be perceived as magic.

Who the children of Udgallu are

This term refers to people who possess an unusually high compatibility with nanites. For most inhabitants of the world, nanites are present in small quantities and hardly manifest themselves.
Children of Udgallu have a significantly stronger connection to the network. This is why they are able to use powers that ordinary people consider miracles or magic.
Many legends link the origin of such individuals to Udgallu himself, although the true reason lies in the workings of the nanites.

How power manifests

The awakening of abilities occurs gradually. Most often, the first manifestations arise during intense experiences, danger, or emotional upheavals.

Power can manifest in various ways:

healing wounds;
enhancing the body;
managing energy;
influencing living organisms;
affecting the environment.

Most people initially do not understand the nature of what is happening and perceive it as a blessing or a curse.

What determines ability type

The type of ability depends on the characteristics of the interaction between the human body and the nanites.

Each person has their own compatibility, which is why even with the same origin, abilities can vary greatly. Some interact better with living organisms, others with energy, and others with the environment.

This is why completely identical abilities are extremely rare.

What determines ability strength

Power depends on several factors:

the level of compatibility with nanites;
experience in using abilities;
emotional state;
concentration of nanites in the body and environment;
physical condition of the bearer.

Excessive use of power can lead to exhaustion, loss of control, and dangerous consequences for both the individual and those around them.

Technology and crafts

Technology and crafts

Fragments of the Old World

Crafts of the new age

After the Catastrophe, most of the knowledge of the old world was lost. People had to relearn how to build houses, grow food, mine metal, and create tools.

Each settlement gradually developed its own crafts. The Ravens became known for hunting and extracting glass from the ruins, the Wolves for smelting Lagerens and trading, the Green Grass for agriculture and preserving knowledge, and the Stream for carpentry, mills, and working with wood.

Settlement mechanisms

Despite the loss of technologies from the old world, people have learned to create complex mechanical devices.

In settlements, one can find lifts, mills, block systems, water wheels, forges, and other constructions that operate without electricity. Many of them were created by generations of craftsmen and are constantly being improved.

For most inhabitants, such mechanisms represent the pinnacle of engineering art in the new era.

Unclear traces of the old world

Across the world, ruins of cities, tunnels, roads, buildings, and objects have survived, the purpose of which has long been forgotten. People find glass of unusual clarity, metal structures, old mechanisms, and strange symbols. Some items are reused, while others are considered artifacts or simply beautiful trinkets. Most inhabitants do not understand the true origin of these finds and perceive them as a legacy of ancient times.

The danger of misunderstanding

Not all the legacy of the old world is safe.

Many ruins hide unstable mechanisms, clusters of nanites, dangerous creatures, and unknown phenomena. Sometimes an attempt to use a found item brings benefits, while other times it leads to tragedy.

That is why experienced hunters and explorers approach ancient finds with caution. The less a person understands the discovered technology, the more dangerous it may turn out to be.

Nature and climate

Nature and climate

A world changed by Symphony

Altered nature

After the Catastrophe, not only humans changed. Nanites spread through water, animals, and the environment, forever altering the face of the world.

Most of nature retained its familiar features; however, many species of animals and plants acquired new properties. Khemars, Veins, Tumargs, and other creatures that did not exist in the old world emerged. Some plants learned to use nanites for protection, propagation, or hunting, as seen with the Akalu trees and the colonies of Myconites.

Despite the dangers, the nature of Udgallu remains remarkably vibrant. Forests have once again covered the ruins of cities, rivers have changed their courses, and many traces of civilization are gradually dissolving among the vegetation.

Climate and seasons

The climate of Udgallu closely resembles that of the old world. There are still four seasons: spring, summer, autumn, and winter.

However, the influence of the Catastrophe is still felt. In some regions, dense fogs, unusual plant blooms, and local natural anomalies occur more frequently. Swamps remain one of the most dangerous places due to the high concentration of altered organisms and poor visibility.

For most settlements, the change of seasons dictates the entire way of life. In spring, sowing and long journeys begin; in summer, active trade and construction take place; in autumn, the harvest is gathered and preparations for the cold are made; and in winter, many roads become nearly impassable.

That is why survival in Udgallu depends not only on the strength of people but also on their ability to understand the surrounding world and adapt to its changes.

World dangers

World dangers

The Price of Survival

Life in Udgallu is rarely safe. Beyond the walls of human settlements lie dozens of threats: predators, hunger, the ruins of the old world, and other people. Many dangers are well known, but some remain a mystery even to experienced hunters and travelers.

☠

Creatures and Predators

Modified beasts have become part of the new world. Khemars hunt in packs, Tumargs hide in the swamps, Veins watch from the forest shadows, and other creatures remain poorly understood. Not every threat can be noticed in time, and some predators prefer that their prey comes to them on its own.

🏚

Ruins of the Old World

Ruins attract hunters with glass, metal, tools, and rare finds. However, along with the loot, there are hidden collapses, unstable structures, clusters of nanites, dangerous creatures, and unknown technologies, the purpose of which has long been forgotten.

❄

Hunger, diseases, and winter

Not every death comes from fangs or claws. Crop failures, bad water, injuries, infections, and harsh winters take lives every year. Sometimes the most dangerous battle becomes the struggle to survive until spring.

⚔

People

Humans are capable of creating alliances, cities, and trade routes. But they also become the cause of wars, betrayal, and bloodshed. The struggle for resources, power, and survival often proves to be more dangerous than any creature of Udgallu. Sometimes the most terrifying enemy wears a human face.

Daily life and survival

Daily life and survival

Everyday Life in Udgallu

Most of life in Udgallu is dedicated not to feats and journeys, but to ordinary survival. People build homes, grow crops, stockpile food for winter, hunt, heal wounds, and maintain settlements in order. The quality of everyday work is just as important as the strength of hunters or the height of walls.

🍞

Food and Supplies

The diet mainly consists of grains, vegetables, root crops, dried meat, fish, fat, and hunting products. Each settlement tries to create reserves for the cold season, as a poor harvest or harsh winter can threaten the survival of hundreds of people.

🏠

Housing and Protection

Houses are built from wood, stone, old metal, and materials obtained from the ruins. In addition to housing, walls, watchtowers, bridges, lifts, warehouses, and other structures that protect the settlement from beasts and bad weather are of great importance.

🌿

Healing and Herbalists

Most diseases and wounds are treated with herbs, infusions, ointments, honey, and the experience of healers. Each settlement keeps its own knowledge of medicinal plants. The true medicine of the old world has long been lost, so health often depends on the skill of herbalists.

🛤

Roads and Travels

Traveling between settlements requires preparation, guides, and protection. Caravans try to move along known routes, avoiding dangerous ruins, swamps, and animal trails. Even a short road can become a serious challenge if the wrong time of year or path is chosen.
